What is the Know What's Cooking program?
Know What's Cooking, developed by Susan C. Scott, Licensed Registered Dietitian, teaches how to choose healthy foods and how to prepare these foods deliciously in a healthy manner. Nutrition, science, health, and character education are included.
Incorporate this program into your school's federally-mandated wellness program in the classroom and after school, or offer as adult education at worksites, wellness facilities, and health fair events - and, most importantly, your family's own kitchen.
Why does this program make sense?
Childhood obesity is spiraling, in part, due to excess calories of unhealthy foods. Associated with this is an increasing rate of diabetes, depression, and hypertension in our children.
The major risk factors for the "often preventable diseases" - heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, and cancer - are linked to unhealthy food chioces, physical inactivity, and obesity.
Few people make healthy food choices consistent with the current evidence-based eating recommendations. Many agree that they do not really know how to cook.
Learn how to prepare tasty & healthy food choices and "Know What's Cooking!" So stir up some fun while making it a personal priority to be fit and healthy!
