Meet Susan

A nationally recognized awarding-winning Registered Dietitian - Susan Crews Scott, RD, LD has dedicated her life to champion optimal nutrition and health through innovation, practical advice, and "good taste" with companies, healthcare systems, schools, and thousands of consumers.
Launching SCS Nutrition Consulting in 1989 as a busy mother of three children and later a breast cancer survivor, Susan knows first hand about investing in your health through life's amazing challenges. Her company is headquartered in the beautiful Tennessee Valley's Huntsville, Alabama - named one of Forbes Leading Cities for Business May 2008, and one of America's Top 5 Cities for Job Opportunities, September 2008, SmartMoney.com - where she maintains a private practice, providing medical nutrition therapy to individuals with a physician referral.
Susan specializes in healthy eating, smart cooking, heart health, weight management, pre-diabetes, disease prevention and wellness. She has authored the Know What's Cooking™ educational series.
She serves as dynamic speaker to organizations and corporations on nutrition and corporate wellness topics. As a consultant to healthcare systems, companies, schools, corporate restaurant services, and websites, she has authored newsletters, developed disease prevention programs, and directed nutritional analysis of proprietary recipes and menus.
Leadership
Susan is an active member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) since 1977, and has served on local affiliate boards of directors (in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Evansville, Indiana; Wichita, Kansas, and Huntsville, Alabama) and state dietetic associations of Kansas and most recently, Alabama (2001-2009). She served as President of the Alabama Dietetic Association (2006-2007) and President of the Alabama Food and Nutrition Exposition Board (2007-2008). She is recognized as an advocate for the provision of nutrition services in patient-centered medical home models and in government and foundation-supported programs as well as in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease.
Awards and Education
Nationally recognized as 2008 Outstanding Dietitian by the Alabama Dietetic Association and 1986 Young Registered Dietitian of the Year by the Indiana Dietetic Association, Susan is a Magna Cum Laude Bachelor of Science graduate of West Virginia University and completed the Coordinated Undergraduate Program in Dietetics there. She has furthered her studies at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Evansville, and Kansas State University.
She maintains active membership in ADA's specialty dietetic practice groups of Nutrition Entrepreneurs, Sports, Cardiovascular & Wellness Nutritionists (SCAN), Pediatric Nutrition, Weight Management, Nutrition in Complementary Care, and The Food & Culinary Professionals.
Community Contributions
She has participated in a wide variety of volunteer activities, including public speaking, television interviews, and consumer education and supportive efforts for organizations such as the American Heart Association, churches, and schools. Major contributions include member of school wellness committees, founder of a junior garden club, garden club member of the year, and co-chair, gala fundraiser for a private high school.
